We have at least two of these. There's a silly white plastic thing which sits in front of the front battery to keep the batteries from busting the bulb if the flashlight is dropped. I lost at least one but the flashlight works without it. Something on the bulb holder puts an indentation in the front battery tip causing the contact to get bad in time. Having trouble with intermittant light from these convinced me that spending the extra money on a Mag-lite was more than worthwhile.

this flashlight is top notch....i bought it in 1986 when i was 16. I was amazed by it's toughness. it felt like it would break when abused, but this was proved wrong....i tried and tried but it still worked...this flashlight was a wonder in it's time...
