I just bought a similar lantern with a push on/push off slide switch. It was in a very rural Goodwill store in Texas. What was it used for?

I have asimilar lantern but the toggle switch is directly under the handle at the front approx the same distance from the lens with two original bulbs apparently and both in working condition
