He bought it at a thrift store or flea market about 15 years ago just because he thought it was interesting. It works, but barely lights up. There's a good amount of corrosion to clean to get a good electrical path. This light adjusts from a larger flood to small spot by sliding the switch forward which surrounds the bulb with a round metal shroud preventing the bulb from spilling light onto the larger reflector.
