This is typical of the cheaper grade lights issued to me when I worked as a diesel locomotive electrician, around 1990. We weren't supposed to use a metal case flashlight, in case it were to be dropped in an electrical box, it wouldn't cause a short circuit. I think these flashlights had a life a little longer than a set of D cells; they were very cheap. I still have one exactly like the above picture. It's only marking is "MADE IN U.S.A." around the top of the black barrel.
