You had to buy it at the Base Commissary, they were not issued, with the money you had or was issued the next day after you arrived at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. I purchased one in 1961 at the Base Exchange in Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. They were mandated to be carried and turned on while marching at night, to prevent from being struck by a motor vehicle. They were a reliable light and were well built.
